Christmas Gourds

Christmas is a time of loving, giving, being appreciative, being around the ones you love, buying gifts, and decorating. You can either go out and buy a lot of decorations or create them within your own home. You can use gourds to make various Christmas decorations. Gourds can be a centerpiece for your table, little figurines, ornaments, and a lot more.

Making Ornaments

You will need these supplies to make your ornaments: different types of assorted and dried ornamental gourds if you did not grow your own, cleaning supplies, a soft rag, acrylic dyes, leather paints, paint brush, gloves, stems, glue, gold cord, and a drill for the stem hole.

After choosing small variations of gourds, clean the outside with a bleach solution, wipe down, and let it dry. With your gloves coat on the leather dye as many times as you like until you get to the color that you want and let them dry again. Since the original stems on the gourds fall off you will need to drill a hole in the gourd and glue on a new stem that will be sturdier. After you have let the stem dry then you are ready to paint on the decorations with the dye or metallic paint pens. Use stencils of some sort if you are not a good artist. Lastly attach the gold cord to the stem and after that they are ready to be placed on the tree.
