Jewelry Gourds

Jewelry Gourds are miniature gourds that are used for making jewelry, ornaments, necklaces, and other pieces of jewelry. You can either buy the already made jewelry or decide to make and decorate them on your own. If you chose to make them on your own the individual mini gourds only cost about $1.

You will need the following basic items to create jewelry from gourds.

A cutting tool such as a knife or saw, dremel tool, craft knife, mini jigsaw, or a bad saw. You will also need a tool sander, black permanent marker or a wood burner, drill bits along with the drill, dyes, beads, paints, needles, and cords. Either you can create your own patterns, buy a book of jewelry patterns, or browse the internet for some patterns. When you have these basic materials you can now figure out what kind of jewelry you would like to make.

The easiest gourd jewelry to make is the necklace. If you purchased the gourds yourself all you have to do is use the drill to drill a hole right through the neck of the gourds. After drilling the hole you will feed some jewelry cord through the holes on the gourds and tie off your necklace at the end. Use the paint, beads, dyes and other accessories that you bought to add your own style to your jewelry. The bracelet will be made in this similar way.

Other easy jewelry items for beginners will be pins and earrings. With practice you will get better and better and will be able to carve into your gourds to make jewelry and make more complicated jewelry items.
