Gourd Vases

Gourd Vases are the most beautiful crafts that a person can make out of gourds. These are various pumpkin and squash plants that are sculpted into vases. You can make single vases or double vases with these gourds. In this article you will learn how to make a simple gourd vase with a leaf pattern. If you do not like the leaf pattern then you can use any pattern on it that you like.

The materials that you will need to make this simple vase is a dried out large gourd, thick cards or poster boards, paintbrush, sealer that you can spray on, wood burner, band saw or a knife, sanding sponge, dust mask, acrylic paint, leather dye, and a drill with some small bits.

First you will have to clean it and soak it in some water for about fifteen minutes. Wipe it down with a towel and use the putty knife to remove the dirt and mold.

Second you will have to draw a steady line around the top of the gourd. After making the line drill a small hole on the line and start cutting your way around it

Once you have taken off the top, clean out the inside of the vase to remove all the material and seeds. You can use to sponge to wipe away the material in the inside. Once the material is out the inside you can use the leaves to make a stencil on the vase. Color it in with any colors that you like with the leather dye and acrylic. Make sure than you Woodburn the outlining of the leaves so that the will stand out better.

Allow the paint and die to dry. The last step is to spray it will some sealer and set it aside to fully dry.
